Natural stone has been used for thousands of years. From Roman buildings constructed in travertine to today’s most enduring homes and public spaces, stone remains one of the most respected materials among architects and interior designers.

At Artedomus, natural stone is not just a surface material but a foundation for design that lasts. Formed over millions of years and sourced from deep within the earth, stone offers qualities that no manmade product can replicate.
A Material of Substance and Authenticity
Artedomus has worked with natural stone for more than 30 years. During this time, it has become clear that no other material comes close to the character and depth that stone offers. There is a genuine response from architects and designers to stone as a material that brings weight, texture and variation to a project. It is tactile, visually rich, and grounded in nature.
No two pieces of stone are the same. Each has its own distinct veining, tone and texture, much like a fingerprint. This individuality adds to the timeless appeal of stone, making each installation truly one of a kind.
Designed to Last
When the right stone is selected, it can be used for nearly any application, indoors or out. Whether it is a kitchen benchtop, bathroom wall, exterior walkway or staircase, the natural strength and structure of stone ensure longevity and performance.
Artedomus sources stones that are both beautiful and durable. Some varieties may need considered placement due to their more delicate nature, but others combine exceptional strength with striking colour and movement. It is about understanding the right stone for the right application.
There is also a wide range of finishes available. Stone can be raw, honed, polished, sandblasted, bush hammered, or chiselled. These finishes can be used individually or in combination to create nuanced surface expressions, depending on the context and desired feel.

Stone That Evolves with Time
One of the unique qualities of natural stone is how it changes with use. This is known as patina. Over time, the surface of stone tells a story. A new stone benchtop can feel pristine and almost surreal, but after a few years, it softens visually, developing a surface character that reflects the life of the home or project.
This change is not damage, but evolution. And should restoration ever be required, most stone surfaces can be refinished. A kitchen bench can be simply rehoned to bring it back to its original appearance.

*Exclusive Elba *
A standout in the Artedomus collection is Elba. It is a dolomite-based stone extracted from a single quarry in limited quantities. Elba is considered one of the most complete natural stones, both functionally and visually.
Its cool grey base and soft brown markings create a calm and versatile palette. Elba is easy to live with and has excellent performance qualities. Its high dolomite content gives it low porosity and high resistance to staining and scratching, making it ideal for high-use areas in residential and commercial projects.
Elba is available in a variety of formats. Slabs with a smooth honed finish are often used for kitchen benchtops, splashbacks, bathroom vanities and commercial surfaces.

Specification and Maintenance
Natural stone should be sealed during installation and resealed over time. This helps protect the surface and makes ongoing care straightforward. Artedomus recommends a clear penetrating sealer and provides full guidance for installers. Typically, tiles are laid by a tiler and slabs are handled by a stonemason.
Sourcing and Expertise
Artedomus works closely with suppliers across Europe, South America and Africa, though most of the material is purchased through Italian businesses due to the quality of production facilities and the wide range of available stones.
Artedomus also offers a number of stones that are exclusive to their collection and cannot be sourced elsewhere in Australia. This includes at least eight to ten unique materials selected for their design potential, performance and beauty.

A Design Statement with Longevity
For architects and interior designers seeking a material that delivers permanence, depth and authenticity, natural stone remains an essential choice. It brings natural variation, long term performance and aesthetic impact to every project.
Artedomus offers a carefully curated selection of natural stones, along with porcelain slabs, tiles and bathware. Their team supports designers and specifiers with installation advice, material samples and project guidance. They also acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their ongoing connection to land, sea and community.
